Pakistan – Tanners ship 60% more leather but earn less

Tanners and other leather-sector companies in Pakistan exported material and finished products worth $557.4 million in the first seven months of the current calendar year, July 2017-January 2018. This represents an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous financial year. Report by Leatherbiz.

With regard to finished leather, tanners exported substantially more leather in the months in question in the 2017-2018 than the year before, with 17.7 million square-feet leaving Pakistan, an increase of almost 60%. Nevertheless, in value terms, the most recent results show a decline of 3%, with the figure dropping to under $190 million.

Leather accessories exports rose by 3.5% year on year to reach $309 million and footwear manufacturers shipped 5.4 million pairs of shoes, bringing in revenues of $59.4 million. These footwear figures represent a decline in volume of 1.4% but an increase in value of 6%..
